What has been your military spouse career/entrepreneur journey so far?

I was laid off a year ago from a high corporate company and have been going through the military spouse life unemployment struggle! About two months ago I launched my own website to help other military spouses navigate the job process and military spouse life.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is McKinzee Crow and I am from St. Louis, but I currently live in Florida! I enjoy reading, working out, and content creation. I just created my own website. I have a 2-year-old lab dog and have been a military spouse for 2 years.

Tell us about a "typical" day in your professional life.

My typical day starts off by working out before I have to log on for the day, then I sit in 7-9 meetings daily on top of typical work projects as my company is one of the top companies in the world! On my lunch, I publish content on my socials and website!

If you've been stationed overseas, how did this affect your career and or business?

N/A

What has been your biggest military spouse career struggle and how did you overcome it?

I was unexpectedly laid off last November a week before Thanksgiving and had applied to over 600 jobs since with barely no no luck until Hiring Our Heroes helped me get the corporate job of my dreams.

What role did mentors and sponsors play in your journey?

My mentors played a huge role in helping me get my current role!

How does your career path differ from what you imagined for yourself?

My career path differs because I wanted to build a legacy with a company even if it's remote and not jump around from company to company but unfortunately, that's the way it's been going.

How did military life (PCSing, deployments, trainings, etc) factor into your career decisions?

I had to switch companies when we PCSed and luckily was able to be remote all through my husband's job training until I got laid off.

Have you ever had to geo-bach due to your career/entrepreneurship?

N/A

What resources have you found to be useful in your career/entrepreneur journey?

I have found so many resources for military spouses and their careers that I created my own website to dive deep into how each one could help!

Final word: what are your top tips for other military spouses about navigating a career within the military lifestyle?

Don't give up, keep going! You'll find that job that you've always wanted. I know it may seem rough and you want to give up on the job search but don't! Because you can have a career too!
