The hits and misses for your wardrobe by Joyce Neave

Every season the powers that be formulate a list of trends based on the designers' creative visions. This spring is no different. You'll find plenty of fun trends to incorporate into your wardrobe.

It can get overwhelming trying to keep up with the latest trends. My advice is to pick a few that you like and think will add a fresh take on your current style. I have pulled together for you what I feel are the top trends for spring. While these examples are high-end designer, you will also see these trends at every price point.

For a few years now there has been a push to find a way to incorporate denim, and this season they did a fabulous job! There are jeans of course but also tops, shoes, bags to choose from.

A fun trend to incorporate is the cold shoulder/one shoulder/no shoulder top! Though not appropriate for work, this is a simple way to update your spring wardrobe.

Here are some other trends you'll see:

  • In the footwear category, you'll see a lot of mules and slides.
  • Handbags are smaller, even mini.

Some trends that should be avoided or incorporated in very small doses if you can't resist:

  • Embellished clothing, bags and shoes. What may seem fun at first, can be gauche or worse…a "regret" purchase.
  • Large earrings.
  • Odd shirting styles and crazy florals.
  • Ruffles are also in this season, but a more modern version rather than the outdated ones in the back of your closet.

Have fun and play with your clothes - after all, that's what fashion is all about!
