DoD seeks to curb high military spouse unemployment with expanded hiring flexibilities

Sue Hoppin, the founder and president of the National Military Spouse Network, said the policy's effectiveness will ultimately depend on how it is implemented.

“The proof is in the pudding, it's always how they choose to implement. They can make all the suggestions they want, but unless they follow through, unless they track it, it doesn't really have any teeth. It's going to have to be one of those wait and see kind of things,” Hoppin told Federal News Network.

“I think that eliminating red tape in federal hiring, encouraging to look at military spouses is always a good thing, because you're talking about military spouses who have a limited time on station before they have to start getting ready to move again. So anything that's going to help facilitate faster hiring and less wait time … is a great thing. But it's going to all go back to how effectively they implement things,” she added.
